The revelation of Catalan pride

The impact of Spanish design

The most enduring Olympic image

Barcelona Olympic Games 1992
Spectak's Ric Birch was appointed Executive Producer for the Ceremonies of Barcelona - and what ceremonies they turned out to be! Birch supervised a team of outstanding Catalan performing artists who joined some of the greatest names in theatre and opera from Spain and around the world. Composer Andrew Lloyd Weber wrote the Ceremonies theme - Amigos para Siempre - and it was performed by Sarah Brightman and Jose Carreras. Other stars onstage included Cristina Hoyos, Placido Domingo, Monserrat Caballe, Alfredo Kraus, Teresa Berganza, Victoria de los Angeles, and the creative talents La Fura dels Baus and Els Comediants. But the most enduring image of all belongs to Antoni Rebollo, the nerveless archer who released the flaming arrow to ignite the Olympic cauldron.
